ONE OF MY FAVE CAKES IN THE BAY AREA

Since the pandemic, I discovered many small businesses through my food-stagram, and one of them being Hanabi Cakes.

Hanabi is a small pastry business based in the San Francisco, Bay Area. They specialize in modern french style desserts but with a Japanese twist. They use all-natural, healthy ingredients and handmade to perfection!

I had the honor of being invited to their kitchen to see their process of baking, plating, and packaging. All their cake boxes were really moist, light, and not too sweet! They have a variety of flavors and change flavors seasonally. Some of their original flavors included strawberry vanilla, matcha, sea salt oreo, pork furikake, soymilk custard, and red velvet! However, as seasons change, their current menu as of Summer 2021 includes; rose lychee, sea salt oreo, matcha red bean, honey caramel, jasmine peach and soon-to-be-released ube cake, inspired from the popular filipino dessert, halo halo.

What I really enjoy about their cakes is how light, airy, moist, and delicate they are. Each box is a single serving, but I can’t help but devour it and keep wanting more. I remember the first time I had their cakes, I ate almost five boxes in one night. Since their sweetness level is to a minimum, you absolutely feel no guilt eating these cakes. It’s amazing.

Besides mini box cakes, they also offer larger specialty cakes such as diamond heart-shaped mouse cakes, mirror glazed cakes, layered mouse cakes, and tiramisu! For these cakes, they offer flavors from Earl Grey Caramel Walnut (my fave!), Strawberry Mascarpone, Triple Chocolate, and Matcha Coconut.

Overall, I highly recommend their cakes for any occasion. They’re gorgeous and will definitely not give you too much guilt if you decide to eat their whole menu as I did. Even though their products are a little bit on the expensive side (Bay Area prices), they are definitely worth it as they consider themselves a luxury pastry shop, using all-natural organic ingredients.

If you decide to purchase their cakes, you can check them out on their website or check them out on their Instagram for updates!
